Robin Hills Family Home Gets a Solar Upgrade.

With continually load shedding, power outages and a concerning rise in electricity costs looming Urban Currents was asked to look at optimising and enhancing the clients two year old Kodak system. After careful consideration and scrutiny the change to hybrid technology was agreed on.


Urban Currents Hybrid Solar System Project Details: Existing installation

  • 1 x 5kW Kodak inverter

  • 6 x JA Solar panel 335W monos

  • 4 x 110 amh AGM tell batteries

  • New and Updated Hybrid Solar

Standard solar inverters are a great place to start when it comes to getting into the solar market. They can be directly wired into certain critical electrical circuits or items, normally fridges, lights , TVs and computers, that you want to run during load shedding or power outages. These items will now run off the sun during the day and the batteries or Eskom during the night.


During power outages they would run off the batteries or the solar panels.

These inverters are most often coupled with deep cycle gel batteries for energy storage. The batteries have an average lifespan of 5 years. If they are discharged by more than 50% or over heated the life span is drastically reduced.

With the new system up and running it is easy to quantify the difference between the two.


Looking at the tables of the same time period we can see that there is a massive difference in the power output. Remember that we did not alter or change the solar panels themselves.





Further analysis of the data from Kodak inverter system showed that it was producing an average of 30.5 kW per month.


In our monthly graph from the Deye hybrid system we can see that it now produces this in less than three days.
